We're Having Self-Care For Breakfast
Self-care for breakfast... eating breakfast for self care... it's one in the same.
When we hear the term "self-care" we usually right away think pampering, napping, taking a yoga class, etc. We don't always think about eating as a form of self-care, becasue it's just part of our daily norms. However, eating is a form of self-care, and what and when we eat can effect our mood, wellness, health, and so much more.
So how do we begin our fabulous daily self-care routines? With the most imortant meal of the day, of course!
Below are 3 big reasons why breakfast is self-care.
1. Breakfast gets us moving and affects our energy levels.
"Breakfast" is exactly what it states... breaking the overnight fasting period in which we sleep. We need breakfast to supply and replenish our bodies with glucose, which in turn will boost our energy levels and alertness. Keep in mind... there’s a fine line between fueling your body with proper nutrition compared to eating a breakfast that will leave you feeling sluggish. Foods high in healthy proteins, fats, and vitamins can also help give you energy, so try adding those into your morning routine. Lastly, breakfast will also kick-start our metabolism, helping us to burn more calories throughout the day.
2. Eating breakfast (or not eating breakfast) can impact our mood.
Research has shown that skipping breakfast can cause your brain to produce higher cortisol levels, making you feel anxious or stressed. It can also spike blood sugar levels, and leave you feeling irritable and fatigued. Also, on a more simple note, people with full bellies in the morning tend to be more happy and less crabby than those who skip it.
3. Breakfast can provide comfort.
Yes, food and proper nutrition are essential for our survival. But given that we are blessed with taste buds food is also very comforting, and meant to be enjoyed. Enjoying a warm bowl of oatmeal on a cold winter day, or a tasty acai bowl in the heat of summer is absolutely a form of self-care. You're nourishing your body with what it needs, while enjoying yourself at the same time. Doesn't get any better than that!
