6 Healthy Indoor Activities for the Winter
As the colder months approach, we all tend to spend most of our time cozying up indoors. This makes it pretty difficult to get yourself moving and get some physical activity in when all you really want to do is have a cup of hot chocolate and curl up with a good book.
Needless to say, though, it is important to stay focused on your physical health all year round.
Always staying indoors can be a great de-motivator to get your workout in but it doesn’t have to be. When the winter months roll around, it is time to move your workout routines indoors. Below are a few ways you can do that.
1. Get Your Steps in by Walking at an Indoor Location
Get your 10k a day in while staying warm by choosing an indoor location, like the mall, to walk in. If you need extra motivation, join a walking group or take a friend or family member with you on your mall walk.
You can also buy a treadmill for the house or hit the nearest gym and use theirs.
2. Create a Home Gym
You don't need to fork out huge amounts of cash to create an indoor gym. Grab a set of weights, some stretch bands, maybe a stability ball, and you're good to go.
A few gym essentials can go a long way. Remember that fancy equipment doesn’t always promise fancy results.
3. Find a Local Indoor Pool
Find a local indoor pool and get wet. Whether it is swimming, water aerobics, or simply walking in the water, an indoor pool can be a great way to get your activity in while also relaxing.
4. Try a New Fitness Video
Thanks to the power of the internet, you can follow workouts in real-time from the comfort of your home.
Yoga is a popular choice for indoor exercising. If you prefer something upbeat, dancing is an excellent way to get the body moving. You can make it fun by inviting your friends over and having a group dancing session.
Pilates is another great option. You don’t have to use the fancy equipment that they usually use in gyms. All you need is a good YouTube video, a yoga mat, and some comfy clothes to get the ball rolling.
5. Go Bowling
It is important to enjoy an active social life whilst staying indoors. A great way you can do that is to go bowling with your friends. This way, you can have a nice time with your friends while getting a fresh bout of physical activity in.
6. Go Rock Climbing
For those of you who love a challenge, indoor rock climbing can be the perfect sport. Rocking climbing not only provides a great workout but also allows you to engage your strategic skills by finding different paths upwards.
It works on a number of different muscle groups and is an overall fun activity for both kids and adults.
As we head into winter, it is good practice to think of it as an opportunity to explore all the great indoor activities at your disposal instead of missing out on the outdoor ones. On days that it is possible to head out, build a snowman or have a snow fight.
Whatever you choose to do, remember to stay safe!
