Healthy eating for stress.

Life can be stressful. The answer to all of our stress-related problems is simple... vacation.

This isn't an article about types of vacations, although, that sounds quite lovely at the moment. Actually, taking small steps such as adding nutrient rich foods into your diet can significantly help boost your mood and reduce stress. Find out which foods below!

Honey for stress.

Honey

Mmmm. We're glad honey is on the list. This sweet and luscious food has many uses, but did you know it can calm and relax the mind? Honey contains tryptophan, which is an amino acid that can help to reduce anxiety and relax nerves. It's also known to be rich in potassium which has a soothing relieve on the brain and body.

Celery for stress.

Celery

Celery contains phthalides, a compound thought to relax artery wall tissues and promote healthy blood flow. Research has shown that eating four stalks of celery a day can lower high blood pressure, in turn, leading to a better ability to relax.

Salmon for stress and anxiety.

Salmon

It's no secret that salmon is an extremely healthy protein to add to your diet. It can also be beneficial for reducing anxiety. Salmond contains nutrients such as vitamin D and the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), all promoting good brain health. Omega-3s can help boost serotonin levels while hindering the production of anxiety hormones cortisol and adrenaline.

Milk for anxiety.

Milk

Growing up you may have heard you mother tell you to drink warm milk if you were having trouble sleeping at night. And we have to say, momma was on to something! Like honey, warm milk is known to contain tryptophan. Another nutrient that milk is famously known for is Vitamin D. Vitamin D can decrease inflammatory responses in the brain which could potentially influence mood. With all that being said, listen to your momma and drink your milk folks!

Green tea for stress and anxiety.

Green Tea

We love all of the amazing health benefits of green tea! It has a ton of antioxidants and is known for its correlation to potentially preventing many diseases. Green tea can also improve brain function and reduce anxiety! It contains L-theanine, an amino acid that is known for the positive effects it may have on positive brain health. L-theanine may also increase GABA, or gamma-Aminobutyric acid, a neurotransmitter that blocks impulses between nerve cells in the brain. Low levels of GABA are sometimes linked to anxiety or other mood disorders.

Final Thoughts

These are only a few of the many healthy foods that can help boost your mood when feeling stressed or anxious. Several others include nuts and seeds, dark chocolate, green leafy veggies, and other soothing teas. Adding these nutritious foods into your daily diet can help keep your stress levels in check, and keep you more calm over time.
